My Body Is A Note- Kinesthetic Learning

On Monday when I marked the corrections, they were not properly done and I could not see if learning had been achieved- some missed the point. On Tue, I tried to spend more time explaining, and the corrections came out better but some were still not properly done. In addition, due to the extra time I spent on explaining, the students did not have time to finish their corrections. Therefore, I decided that I would input kinesthetic learning to give the students a clearer, concrete picture of how to count the notes (line vs space notes).
With that objective in mind, I came up with the the MY BODY IS A NOTE GAME: I used strips of black cloth and laid them on the floor, and got students to split themselves into 2 teams. They took turns (two by two) and had 5sec to place themselves on the line/space where they thought the note was, after I called out the note. If they got it right, they earned a point for their team. I chose this “game/competition” method in order to get students to desire to get the note right. Also, getting the students up and moving and having fun would allow them to learn more deeply.
CONS for MY BODY IS A NOTE:
1. It is difficult to keep track of who got the note correct and who did not (so that I know who has grasped the concept of notes).
2. Because it is a fast-paced game (to keep students’ excitement up), I find that I do not have time to help students who get the answer wrong- I can only ask them to observe their friends’ correct notes and tell their group to teach them (some of whom really do! (: )
POI:
1. Try to find out if Class Dojo or an app can award points by name so I can tell who got it right and wrong, OR simply use this game as a kinesthetic learning exercise and then use Plickers (which tracks names and quiz questions) for gathering info from students.
2. Paste visual helps in the room / flash it on the PPT slides for weaker students to look at- HOWEVER, the danger is that they might not ever learn to count as they will always rely on reading the board.
