Two Ways To Love

Love seeketh not itself to please,
Nor for itself hath any care,
But for another gives its ease
And builds a heaven in hell's despair.
...
Love seeketh only itself to please,
To bind another to its delight,
Joys in another's loss of ease,
And builds a hell in heaven's despite."
Excerpt from 'The Clod and the Pebble', by William Blake
I think i've been extremely selfish and I really need to stop that 'seeking to please myself'. The more I wilfully ignore the conscience that pricks at me, the more dull and insensitive I become toward the living Word of God.
There is a difference between a godly conscience and an over-sensitive conscience, and I freely admit that I often lean toward the latter. However, I am convinced that in this circumstance, the way that honours God would be the way that seeks to preserve what God has ordained (Mark 10:9).
