A Running To, not Away From

After struggling with it for awhile, I was finally reminded (rebuked?) today that I was being completely childish and not acting according to what I actually believe.
And I have been through this before, in various forms. The answer has always been to first run TOWARDS, rather than away from. And we use it extensively in teaching as well- "dwell on the to-dos, not do-nots."
Setting barriers (physical, emotional, mental) are all fine and dandy, but when the purpose is not clear (or the person is always looking back), these processes really serve no purpose, and the product is flawed somehow.
"That which is restrained, is most left wanting."
Wow. This goes back to the core of my belief- am I still shackled by the Law, or free to do what I want but choosing to serve God?
But God is merciful and His love is boundless and everlasting- and through this service when I was seeking an answer, He spoke to me.
From the start of choir rehearsal today, He was speaking to me. Like a patient teacher who tries every method (because I'm such a difficult and rebellious child that needs many methods and much patience), He comforted me, rebuked me, exhorted me, affirmed me, and encouraged me.
"O soul, are you weary and troubled?
No light in the darkness you see?
There's (enough) light for a look st the Saviour
And life more abundant and free!
Through death into life everlasting
He passed, and we'll follow Him there
Over us sin no more hath dominion
For more than conquerors we are!
His Word shall not fail you, He promised
Believe Him and all will be well
Then go to a world that I dying
His perfect salvation to tell!
(Chorus)
Turn your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in His wonderful face
Then the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace."
This was the last song before the message and it really compounded what God was speaking to me about. Unbelievable- it's like I'm convinced, and already convicted, and the sermon hasn't even started!
