Intention is Not Enough

Interesting how much I learn about #life and #self from the broad field of teaching and related #conversations
Today, a few things struck me:
1. Students look to you when they see that you believe in them. I think I begin to see and 'feel' the difference between being
(a) firm (upholding students to high expectations) and
(b) fierce (trying to use your authority to force them to conform, which indicates an underlying assumption that you don't trust them to behave without your authority being present),
although it is still not as clear as I want it to be. Excited to learn more!
2. I don't know how to give effective feedback in music performances. This, I think, has been a nagging thought at the back of my mind for awhile, which I have been unable to articulate. I am able to point out the error, but am unable to give them a way to correct themselves fast.
But perhaps some things must be learnt from experience (over time), no? Hmm. #foodforthought
3. Intention is not enough. It must be backed up by concrete solutions.
Sigh.
